More than 100 members and guests of the Helensburgh Liberal Democrats celebrated Robert Burns at the town’s Commodore Hotel on Saturday night.

The evening began with traditional Scottish music from Ian and Heulwen Hall.
Piper Colin Smith, of Portincaple, played for the evening; piping as the guests arrived, piping the top table guests to their seats and also piping in the haggis, which was carried by Andrew Nisbet, Convenor, Helensburgh LibDems, before the meal of cock-a-leekie soup, haggis neeps and tatties and
Cranachan and shortbread.

The annual event is a highlight of the organisation's social calendar and this year saw Rev Ian Millar give the Immortal Memory and Iain Gordon the Toast to the Lassies. Councillor Aileen Morton replied to the toast and Alan Reid MP gave the vote of thanks.

Alicia Tindal, with musical accompaniment from Peter Anderson, sang a variety of Burns songs and led the community singing.

The evening was chaired by Eric Thompson, whose role included giving the Address to the Haggis.

The final speech of the evening was given by local MP Alan Reid He said that he had enjoyed the evening very much and was sure that everyone present had too. He thanked all the speakers, singers and musicians, the hotel staff for the catering and the Lib Dem committee for the organisation.
