Liberal Democrat Minister, Ross Finnie MSP has provided nearly £15 Million of extra investment which has improved recycling rates in Argyll & Bute from 9% in 2003 to over 25% this year. New Dunoon Grammar School

As part of the Liberal Democrat team in Government, local MSP George Lyon has provided £80 Million to build new schools in Dunoon, Rothesay, Oban, Lochgilphead and Helensburgh. Liberal Democrats have also funded an extra 60 teachers and classroom assistants in schools across Argyll & Bute. This has helped reduce class sizes to give our young people a better start. The Liberal Democrat team in Government have delivered their 2003 manifesto commitment to provide free eye and dental checks. They have also reduced waiting times to the lowest level for many years and introduced the Ban on Smoking in public places. Local MSP George Lyon has successfully campaigned for the retention of the consultant led services at Oban and the retention of acute services at Inverclyde Royal Hospital. He also fought successfully for a new Mid Argyll hospital at Lochgilphead.

As part of the Liberal Democrat team in Government, local MSP George Lyon has invested £50 million through ACHA to upgrade and improve council houses in Argyll & Bute. Over the next 5 years this will provide tenants with new bathrooms, kitchens and windows. Liberal Democrats have quadrupled the investment in new affordable housing in Argyll & Bute to £17 million this year. As a result, local businesses in Argyll & Bute will receive a boost from a reduction in business rates. Scottish Businesses will pay £800 less this year.
