A tour of Kintyre for the Secretary of State for Scotland, Alistair Carmichael MP included a trip to The Picture House. He and Alan Reid MP for Argyll and Bute weren't there to see a film, but to see for themselves the ambitious plans the Campbeltown Community Business Ltd has for the historic Campbeltown Picture House, an A-listed building which is more than 100 years old.

Plans which have been boosted this year by £300,000 from Highlands and Islands Enterprise and a £409,724 grant from the third round of the Coastal Communities Fund which sees profits from the Crown Estate returned to coastal communities.

Alan Reid said: "You have to admire the hard work and determination of everyone involved with the wonderful old building, for their sheer determination to keep the The Picture House up and running so that everyone in Kintyre can still enjoy the magic of a night out at the cinema. I wish the team all the best for raising the remainder of the funds required.”

Mr Reid and Mr Carmichael also visited Machrihanish Airbase Community Company, and met with farmers and the management of Wind Towers during their trip on Wednesday 11 March.
