Roof Repair Grants For Argyll & Bute Churches

Alan Reid MP has welcomed the news that four churches in his Argyll and Bute constituency will receive nearly £200,000 between them to help pay for roof repairs.Alan Reid MP at St. Conans Kirk

"As the Chancellor said in his budget speech last week, the £15 million Church Roof Fund he set aside at the Autumn Statement to support church roof appeals was heavily oversubscribed and it was good to hear him announce he was going to treble it," said Mr Reid who has represented Argyll and Bute since 2001, "I was very pleased to see these four churches amongst the list; I know that keeping these historic buildings in a good state of repair is a never ending labour of love on the part of congregations and the amount of rain we get here in Argyll doesn't help."

Ardchattan Kirk on the shores of Loch Etive has been awarded a grant of £79,000, being 68 per cent of the money needed for work; St Kiaran's Church, Port Charlotte, Islay, gets a grant towards half of its costs, a total of £15,800. The trustees of St Conan's Kirk at Loch Awe get a 63 per cent grant of £51,900 and £49,500 goes to Rhu and Shandon Parish Church.
